1920's

ArtisTree Idea is Born

1924

ArtisTree's "Live at the Forum" Building is Constructed

ArtisTree's "Live at the Forum" space is constructed as the Arbor Dance Academy. In the 1930's, the upstairs was the Oakleaf Ballroom and Upper Deck Club. By 1940, it had become the Betsy Ross Dance Hall, and in the late 1940's, the meeting place for the GI Forum. The upstairs was vacated in 1951. In 1998, it was fully restored by ArtisTree.

1975

The Andrews move to Hutchinson

Miss Betsie Andrews moves to Hutchinson, Kansas with her husband George.

1977

Andrews Dance Studio 3100 Begins

Since 1977, ArtisTree, formerly Andrews Dance Studio 3100 and Toddler Tree Preschool, has been growing as a complete performing arts idea. From the youngest child through adults, every student receives quality instruction from qualified instructors emphasizing proper technique and the development of individual talents. The heart of our educational philosophy is expressed in our Plan for Dance.

1998

ArtisTree is Founded

Housed in the Forum, two adjacent historical buildings in downtown Hutchinson, Kansas, ArtisTree was founded in 1998 as a Main Street model for integrating arts, education, and entertainment for a richer community life.

1999

Celebrating Re-Opening of Fox Theatre

Celebrating the re-opening of the Fox Theatre with the performance of the annual show at the theatre in May as well as the first show under the new name of "ArtisTree". All of ArtisTree's annual spring shows have since been at the Fox Theatre.

2000

Prairie Nutcracker Debuts at the Fox

Set in 1869 Kansas, this century's new holiday tradition made its debut in 2000 at the Fox. Prairie Nutcracker is the perfect heart-warming American celebration for the heartland's holiday season. It features an enchanting musical score masterfully adapted from Tchaikovsky by Boston composer, Rick Kuethe, a native of Omaha, Nebraska. A delightful and wonder filled holiday gift for the whole family.

2011

Prairie Nutcracker, the book, published

ArtisTree Press publishes its first title Prairie Nutcracker in November 2011. Written by Mary Rintoul and illustrated by Katie Flindall, this adaptation of the popular Nutcracker ballet adaptation brings this story to life in a new way.

2016

Release of the songbook "Under the ArtisTree".

ArtisTree Press releases the songbook "Under the ArtisTree", a collection of songs including original songs from Miss Betsie's grandmother. Songbook is used at every Music & Movement class.

2024
